Fire Engines

Fire Engines

If I’m tired of everyone,
that’s my problem.

So I did what I could
to burble up the most
feeble of prayers.
It was tiny
and it was everything

My little metal crucifix,
my used and will-be-used
unlit votive candle,
my white cotton Shrine cloth.

All of which, on a simple wooden table,
are waiting, ready, never asleep.

Fire engines and ambulances
in municipal garages.

– Pavaka Ritchot.
