Kitchen Magic

Kitchen Magic

It is not the scones,
you see, although
the scones were definitely there,
cooling on the rack on the kitchen table,
Nor the Sherlock Holmes tea –
Although the tea was
there as well –
and in abundance,
   flowing into cups –
Nor the butter and jam that adorned the scones,
   hurrying them into waiting mouths.
No, none of these.
Nor the yellow kitchen,
   blithely defying the grey day
      weeping its Sunday tears –
None, yet all.
And we three,
   together once more,
Bonded by an unseen force
   created from
      Flour, sugar
           and tea.
