When My Heart Has Eyes

When My Heart Has Eyes
(tempo: slow/reflective)
and green grass
stretching over a hill.
and breezes at nightfall
full of ocean aromas.
and bird-packs careening, twisting,
black cloud alive against the blue.
and warm rain in summer.
and sweet children’s laughter,
pealing bells of the heart.
and sun-glowing smiles
that leave nothing unsaid.
and any game you play in the mud
when you are a boy.
and the unwavering eyes of friendship.
and newborn dawns.
and hallowed dreams.
and silent cedars in a snowfall.
and hot springs.
and haunting melodies.
and the very word: quest.
so much and almost everything
begins to shimmer
when my heart has eyes.
so much and almost everything
begins to shine
when my life has love.
– Prabhakar.
