The Metamorphosis of an American Hog

The Metamorphosis of an American Hog

The pecan pie stood in the middle,
ice-cream on the side.

Hog moved slowly around it, criticizing,
inspecting, “I wonder,” he said, “is it home-made?”

Next moment not knowing how it happened,
like in a dream the old passion seized hog and
completely mastered him.

With fork in hand and all consequences
temporarily suspended, he was no longer hog,
now he was Lord, Lord
of all around him.

He chanted as he ate, all must give
way for the fulfillment of the
Lord.
