The Silent Sunset

The Silent Sunset

I know
You are close
for I feel
Your presence
like water
to a desert dweller
whose mind winds its way
to some secret oasis
where cool shady trees
and the soft, sweet taste
of fig and palm
play upon a parched palette.

Life is short;
Living is long
sometimes the sands
stretch out for miles
not knowing which
is north or south,
but sometimes in
the silent sunset
clarity comes
like a crescent
moon slicing the azure sky
saying: this is the way
be still: like a reed flute
for my Lord to fill
with breath.
